3M launches cycling resource

3M, the diversified technology company, has launched a ‘safe cycling’ module on 3M Streetwise, its online child road safety teaching resource.

In keeping with the original site, the new module, Bright thinking for cyclists, has many interactive pages aimed at teachers, pupils and parents. It also features an animated film designed to allow for classroom discussion on safe and unsafe behaviours by cyclists.

The site also supports the new National Standard for cycle training, Bikeability. The original site, www.3Mstreetwise.co.uk was formally launched in October last year by Dr Stephen Ladyman.

Jools Townsend, Head of Education at Brake, the road safety charity, said: “We are delighted that 3M continues to invest in its outstanding website. The new pages offer a driver’s eye view of the road – something children don’t get to see for themselves – and that can really help emphasise the importance of issues such as being clearly visible.”

Doug Mitchell, managing director of 3M UK, said: “We are proud to have child road safety as the key theme of our community programme.

“When we launched the original site last autumn we had a fantastic reception from teachers, road safety officers and after-school and out-of-school clubs. We very much hope they will find the new safe cycling module just as useful, and that children will enjoy all the interactivity that the site offers.”
