French road safety resource developed in Scotland

A French road safety teaching resource for primary school children was launched recently in Scotland.

The resource, A petits pas (small steps), was written and developed by Lothian and Borders Police Road Safety Unit with the support of teachers from Drumbrae and Kirkliston primary schools.

A petits pas teaches French using road safety as the key subject. The resource provides pupils with a series of road safety worksheets covering topics such as time, distances, vehicles, colours, transport, weather, clothes and the family - all in French and English!

A petits pas will be provided in an electronic format to all 325 primary schools across the Lothian and Borders area.

The resource was launched by John Collins, manager of Hibernian Football Club, who said: "I think this is a fantastic project and a great way to educate our children both from the road safety angle and another language.”

Monique Sanderson, RSO said: "Learning about road safety is an essential skill for school children and this unique resource enables them to learn French as well.

'A petits pas has been designed as a working resource that can be periodically updated and we welcome suggestions from primary school teachers to assist in developing the scheme in the future.'
