Pupil teaches penguins road safety skills
David Hughes - the winner of the 7+ year old category of the national Make Roads Safe campaign - demonstrated his road safety skills by leading the penguin parade at Edinburgh Zoo.
Pupils across the UK took part in a competition to name the Make Roads Safe’s interactive zebra and write a short script about how to make roads safe.
The eight year old from Knoxland Primary School in Dunbarton was chosen out of thousands of UK entries as part of UN Global Road Safety Week.
All of David’s classmates made the trip to Edinburgh to watch as he showed the penguins his road safety skills. David also joined two other age category winners in London to receive their prizes from Michael Schumacher.
Make Roads Safe has launched an interactive road safety website for primary school children. Fantabulous International Adventures features Zimbar the Zebra, who leaves Africa to travel the globe - meeting with friends along the way and teaching important road safety messages.
The website also contains information for parents and teachers and ideas for teaching children road safety messages as part of the curriculum.
