..presenting road safety across the UK

White Van Man – a new survival guide!

Every day 2.5m vans and their drivers deliver the goods that we need to live and work in the UK. Love them or loathe them they're vital to our lives - but their drivers have acquired a terrible reputation.

Some van drivers are their own worst enemies, simply because they fail to be courteous or forget the basic common sense rules that make life easier. For example, speeding at 85 mph on the motorway uses more than 25 per cent more fuel than cruising at 70 mph. And with around a third of all accidents happening when vehicles are reversing, it makes sense to take extra care and avoid expensive damage to your van.

As the UK truck and van show got underway at the NEC in Birmingham, a new survival guide for ‘White Van Man’ was launched. The guide, jointly prepared by RoadSafe and SMMT, provides simple tips to help van drivers drive more safely, while car drivers and pedestrians will be safer if they understand more about a van driver's job.
