Road safety
passport launched in Bedfordshire
Bedfordshire County Council's road safety team has launched a new
campaign in a bid to ensure that every pupil benefits from road
safety training at each stage of his or her school life.
'Passport for Life' is unique to Bedfordshire and equips every pupil
- from the age of 4 to 18 - with a passport to help them travel
safely through lower, middle and upper school.
The passport is signed off at various stages and pupils are rewarded
with a certificate for completion of specific projects. Topics covered
range from 'Stepping Out Safely' to post-driver training.
"Passport for Life will help us meet the Government's target
to reduce all road traffic accident casualties by 40 per cent and
child accident casualties by 50 per cent by 2010," says Bill
Brady, Bedfordshires ETP manager. "We will be
working with everyone involved in this initiative to give as many
young people as possible the opportunity to develop the skills and
knowledge they need to be safe on the road."
The campaign launch took place on Friday 28 June and was broadcast
live on BBC 3 Counties Radio. The road safety team was also on hand
in St Paul's Square, Bedford to answer questions from the public.
