Dates set
for autumn Walk to School event
The dates for the 2002 autumn Walk to School week are 30 September
- 4 October, with the international day scheduled for Wednesday
2 October.
The Walk to School project group is currently preparing some exciting
new campaign materials and full details and an order form will be
with road safety teams shortly. "We have been promised that
orders will be processed quickly so that materials can be sent out
early next term," said Lilian Goldberg, a member
of the event organising group.
The campaign materials will be autumnal in style and colour and
the graphics have a wintry theme. The text in the leaflets looks
at the particular safety issues relating to walking in winter as
well as more general messages about walking to school - and will
again strongly feature the health benefits of walking and exercise
for young children.
Planning for the 2003 events is already underway. The suggested
date for the
spring event is 19-23 May, with the autumn week pencilled in for
6-10 October. The international day is set for 8 October but in
a positive development many areas in the US and Canada are looking
to run events throughout the October week. The international website,
www.iwalktoschool.org,
has a list of the countries taking part.
