New campaign
has Lancashire Buzzing
Recognising that there is a need for in-car safety educational materials
and resources for children to relate to, the Lancashire
Partnership for Road Safety has developed the BeeSafe
initiative.
BeeSafe targets children aged 5-11 years with the message. Always
wear your seat belt. The message is promoted - with the help
of Mr Bumble Bee and Mrs Honey Bee - on bookmarks, balloons, posters,
colouring postcards and bee bugs.
The campaign sets out to encourage children at an early age to adopt
good safety habits. Behavioural research shows that adopting habits
at an early age will have life long lasting effects.
"Seat belts are no use if they are not worn and the Bee character
helps children relate to the messages we are trying to get across
and make learning far more enjoyable," said the Partnerships
Cheryl Brown.
In conjunction with Lancashire Healthy Schools, the Partnership
is also developing an educational resource pack for teachers, which
will be piloted in schools from September. In the autumn children
aged 7/8 years will be given a Super Hero BeeSafe reflector to reinforce
the seat belt message and to make them more visible to motorists
as the nights draw in.
