Campaign asks motorcyclists and car drivers to watch out for each other

Motorcyclists and car drivers travelling north bound along the M25 and stopping for a break at the Clacket Lane Services were encouraged by Surrey RSOs and Surrey Police to watch out for each other.

‘Sorry I didn’t see you!’ was the theme for a selection of photographs depicting recent fatal motorcyclist accidents in Surrey. The campaign was held over the weekend of the World Super Bikes at Brands Hatch.

"Sorry I didn’t see you! generated a great deal of interest," said Gareth Tuffery, Surrey’s senior RSO. " It’s a simple message - both sets of road users need to become more aware of each other.

"One of the biggest killer of motorcyclists is a driver failing to spot them and pulling out on them," he added. "Motorcyclists need to be more aware of driver’s blind spots. The motorcyclist is 45 times more likely to be killed on the road than car drivers."

The campaign followed in the wake of our very successful ‘Think A Head’ seminar held in May, which addressed the vulnerability of the motorcyclist and further built on the county road safety team’s partnership with Surrey Police.
