Leeds considers
computer game to target teenage audience
Tim Draper, senior road safety officer for Leeds,
is developing a pre driver education programme for secondary schools
in the Leeds area.
He is working with members of SCARD (Support and Care After Road
Death) and colleagues in the Leeds road safety team to help build
the resource.
He is considering developing a real life scenario driving
simulator computer game - similar to the aeroplane flight simulators
available for use on PC - as part of the programme, which is aimed
at the 12 - 16 year old age group.
"In the game, the driver would be rewarded for safe driving,
roadcraft, hazard perception and anticipation and penalised for
speeding, driving without due care and attention and failure to
wear seat belts," says Graham Riley, Leeds City
Councils road safety manager.
"We are interested to know if such a game already exists and
whether road safety professionals think there a need for such a
resource."
