5000 children
get the Right Start
More than 5,000 youngsters have benefited this year from Lancashire
County Council's 'Right Start' child pedestrian training programme.
Since Right Start was created four years ago over 200 primary schools
across Lancashire have been involved.
"Research has shown that children learn best through practical
experience in the traffic environment, and this academic year 5,000
schoolchildren across Lancashire have been taught essential road
safety skills," Anita Bailey, the councils
road safety adviser said.
There are three stages of the programme, each comprising a number
of elements including classroom discussions, practical activities
at the roadside and follow up worksheets.
Anne Haydock, Right Start co-ordinator for Preston's
St Ignatius' Catholic Primary, said: "The children have really
benefited from the Right Start sessions as they are firmly based
on practical, first-hand experience. The children have enjoyed the
activities and have been very keen to learn."
