National
Walk to School co-ordinator set for new challenge
Joanne Pike is set to become the first national Walk
to School co-ordinator.
For the past two years Joanne has worked as the TravelWise marketing
officer at the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead. Joanne was
responsible for the Boroughs Walk to School campaigns and
organising a number of activities and incentives to encourage pupils,
parents and teachers to leave their car at home in favour of healthier
alternatives.
Joanne is looking forward to her challenging new role. "Walk
to School has certainly become a successful campaign in the Royal
Borough, with more and more schools participating in Walk to School
events," she says. "I very much welcome the challenge
of promoting the campaign to a much larger audience."
The main objectives of the post are to increase the number of local
authorities, schools, children and parents participating in Walk
to School, and to promote Walk to School activities - not just within
the two Walk to School Weeks but throughout the year.
The post will be funded by the DfT and based at the Living Streets
offices in London. Joanne takes up her new post on 1 September.
