Camera Partnership
goes online
The Avon and Somerset Safety Camera Partnership has launched its
own web site www.safecam.org.uk
- giving up to the minute information about its campaign to cut
deaths and injuries on local roads.
The
web site lists the geographic location of all of the 58 fixed roadside
cameras and the 21 red light cameras that are triggered by motorists
who ignore traffic lights at busy junctions. And it provides maps
of each district, with a zoom button to bring up a detailed sketch
plan pinpointing the exact position of every one of these cameras.
The 136 roads on which mobile speed detection cameras are used are
also listed on the web site, together with the areas in which the
mobile camera teams will be operating each day - up to a week ahead.
"The aim of the Partnership is to reduce deaths and injuries
on our roads, which have such a devastating effect on the lives
of victims, their families and local communities," says project
manager, Dick Bowen. "This website is the latest
stage in our campaign to encourage road users to drive at an appropriate
speed for road and weather conditions."
Other information on the website includes answers to questions that
people most frequently ask about the Partnership and its work, links
to other road safety organisations and a feedback section.
