Essex publishes
leaflet to help motorists in winter
As part of a major campaign to keep vehicles and pedestrians moving
safely across the winter months, Essex County Council has produced
10,000 'Winter Service' leaflets, which are being distributed through
the county's libraries.
The leaflet provides checklists on what to do before starting each
journey and when driving in poor weather conditions - and gives
advice on suitable items for an 'emergency kit' in case people get
stranded.
The leaflet also outlines how Essex County Council's winter service
works and how decisions are made on whether to salt roads.
Approximately 65 salt spreading vehicles and 100 personnel are on
call in Essex and the fleet uses 350 tonnes of salt on each run,
which takes around three hours to complete.
"This leaflet is extremely useful for people who travel in
Essex but I must stress that motorists should always drive carefully
whether the roads have been salted or not," said councillor
Ron Williams, cabinet member for Highways and Transportation.
The leaflet can also be found on the Internet at www.essexcc.gov.uk/roadstransportandtravel.
