Drivers quizzed
in drink drive campaign
Keeping the national drink/drive campaign fresh and alive in the
minds of Surrey drivers is always a challenge to Surrey County Councils
road safety officers.
In previous campaigns RSOs have spoken to large numbers of people
at supermarkets and shopping centres. But this year they are targeting
those who are most vulnerable through a new quiz-style approach
that is been used to test a drivers knowledge - and highlight
the dangers of having alcohol in the bloodstream when driving.

Visitors
attending the Monday night quiz at the Barley Mow public house in
Epsom over the festive period were surprised to find that it had been
hijacked by RSOs. As a backdrop to the pub quiz the latest campaign
posters were displayed, which ask a number of searching questions.
The dont drink and drive message has been around since 1965
(incidentally this was one of our pub quiz questions) and the message
is as important now as it has ever been," said Gareth Tuffey,
Surreys senior RSO. "I am very pleased that we took the
message to our target audience. Media interest has been good compared
to previous drink and drive campaigns."
The traffic and road safety group is also particularly concerned to
reach young drivers in the age group 17-24, who are over represented
in the casualty data. Displays have taken place at Surrey University
and at a number of schools and colleges across the county.
This campaign will continue into the New Year with hard-hitting advertising
in cinema magazines.
