THIS MONTH'S NEWS - UPDATED 1 July 2002

Safety Matters to continue for third year

The ‘Safety Matters’ initiative, which provides road safety resource material for primary schools, is to continue for a third year commencing September 2002.

Safety Matters is part of Renault’s pan-European initiative, Securite Pour Tout, which has been implemented in The Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Slovakia, Spain, Switzerland and Poland. There are also plans to extend it to Australia, Japan, New Zealand and Singapore.

Since the launch of Safety Matters in the UK in September 2000 over 13,000 primary schools have applied for a resource pack. The pack includes a teachers’ folder, 30 exercise books, 30 ‘slap’ armbands, a video and a classroom poster. Schools have also been provided with additional teaching materials as they have been developed to supplement the original resource.

A Safety Matters website is currently being constructed for a ‘Back to School’ launch in September. The site will include dedicated sections for teachers, parents and pupils. Teachers will be able to apply for resources on-line and share information and ideas for road safety projects with other teachers. Parents will be given tips on teaching road safety and children will be able to have fun playing games while important road safety messages are reinforced.

Further information or resource material can be obtained by writing to: Safety Matters, FREEPOST ANG 8097, Diss, IP98 3HH.
