Road safety
picnic set to become annual event
It is never too soon to start teaching road safety skills to children
and with this in mind pre-school children in Kingston-upon-Thames
enjoyed a road safety picnic as part of a Child Safety Week initiative.
The picnic was organised by Kingston Councils Road Safety
Unit and a local pre-school group. It was also supported by officers
from the Metropolitan Police, the Health Authority and RoadPeace,
the road traffic victims charity.
Activities included road signs face painting, traffic light biscuits,
be seen safety bands, a road safety magic show, crossing
safely with a Lollipop lady, as well as safety knowledge tests for
parents.
Kingstons Mayor Dennis Doe cut a giant Zebra
Crossing cake and Walking to School mascot Debra the Zebra helped
serve up traffic light jellies to the guests.

"The
hundred or so pre-schoolers and their carers had a great time,"
James Parker, Kingstons RSO explained. "It
goes to show that learning about safety can be fun and we hope to
make the picnic an annual event."
