Minister
unveils new road safety resource for Scotlands children
Fun is the name of the game when it comes to learning about road
safety, according to Scotlands minister for transport, Nicol
Stephen.
The minister was speaking as he launched a new activity pack for
out of school clubs last month. Around 900 playschemes and after
school clubs across Scotland will benefit from the new resource,
which includes board games, running races and other physical activities
to help get across the road safety message.
"Road safety is vital for children whether they are walking,
playing, cycling or skateboarding," Mr Stephen said. "We
are determined to halve the number of children killed and seriously
injured by 2010, compared with the average for 1994-98. We are on
target, with child deaths and serious injuries so far down 38 per
cent, but we must do more.

"Education
is a key part of improving road safety. Learning to use the roads
safely is vitally important. This new pack proves that children
can have fun while learning these
fundamental messages."
