Spike
and Game Over two new initiatives in Cambridgeshire
Cambridgeshire County Councils road safety team has recently
recruited a new member of staff - and commissioned a road safety
play, in conjunction with colleagues in Peterborough.
The new team member is SPIKE the road safety hedgehog,
who has been specially designed and manufactured by Richard
Hanscombe. Richard is attached to the Key Theatre in Peterborough.
The loveable hedgehog is gaining celebrity status throughout the
county as he visits schools, playgroups, nurseries and fetes - spreading
the same road safety messages as his hedgehog cousins do in television
commercials.
In addition, Cambridgeshire County Council and Peterborough City
Councils road safety teams have jointly commissioned the Key
Theatre to write and perform a new play entitled Game Over.
Game Over is aimed at 11-12 year old pupils and warns
of the dangers this age group faces - including pedestrian safety,
skateboarding, cycle helmets and behaviour on buses.
The play will be touring Cambridgeshire and Peterborough schools
in the autumn term. Any road safety team members interested in viewing
the play should contact Lyn Hesse on 01480 376718,
