NTWA
upgrades Safe Routes website info
The National Travelwise Association (NTWA) has completed a significant
upgrade to the Safe Routes pages on its website, www.travelwise.org.uk.
The
pages are based on the experiences and knowledge of a Safe Routes
officer who has worked on the initiative for four years. "It
is our intention to update these pages regularly to reflect new
developments," said Mike Motteram, NTWAs
webmaster. "If LARSOA members feel we haven't adequately covered
certain topics or have neglected others we would be very pleased
to hear from them.

"Also,
if authorities wish to add their details to our Safe Routes database
they can do so by contacting their TravelWise co-ordinator to obtain
the password for the contacts pages," Mike continued.
Safe
Routes information on the NTWA website is divided into the following
sections:
Technical
information - engineering solutions, traffic calming, school
travel plans, accidents, pedestrian crossings and planning control.
Management/consultation tackling the project, involving
children, gathering suggestions, and getting the best out of working
groups.
Travel modes - information on walking (including walking
buses), cycling (including cycle-friendly traffic calming), public
transport (including bus policies) and car use.
Partnering - the joys (and perils) of working with others
- including schools, health authorities, the police, campaigning
groups and the various levels of local and national government -
towards a common goal.
Environment - a brief overview of the environmental impacts
of school-related vehicle traffic, with links to other useful websites.
Health/personal safety - should children walk or cycle to
school, and get fitter? Or should they travel by car and avoid the
risk of being squashed by traffic or abducted by strangers?
Includes links to other useful websites.
