Tiny
Giants help get message across in Peterborough
RSOs at Peterborough City Council are working in partnership with
the Tiny Giants theatre group to ensure that the citys pupils
are aware of the dangers they face when crossing the road or travelling
in a car.
Pupils aged seven to eleven from 33 primary schools recently participated
in an interactive theatre performance at Hampton Hargate Primary School
in Peterborough.
"Educational theatre is a highly effective way to inform children
about important road safety issues," said Beverley Jones,
one of the city councils RSOs. "Involving the audience
through role play helps pupils identify dangerous situations and encourages
them to learn from their own mistakes, in a safe environment. Education
is a key tool in helping us reduce the number of children killed and
seriously injured on the roads."

Key messages
such as Stop, Look, Listen and Think were reinforced throughout the
performance, which featured rap-rhythms and culminated in a lively
song and dance number involving both the cast and the audience.
"Schools are very conscious of the day to day risks that children
face," added Jed Holmes, headteacher at Hampton Hargate. "We
are very keen to minimise these risks and make best use of any messages
that can reinforce the road safety message. Groups such as this theatre
group put over the message in a fun and memorable way and are a very
important part of the work that schools do." |
