Southend launches second mobile road safety unit

Following the success of its Cyclist Training Unit, which was introduced two years ago, Southend-on-Sea’s Road Safety Team has launched a second mobile road safety unit.

The new vehicle is an Education and Publicity Unit that carries all the equipment and resources used by the team to deliver the wide range of programmes it runs in schools.

"We have faced a constantly increasing demand for our services within schools and the community at large - to the extent that a vehicle for this purpose has become essential," says the council’s road safety officer, Keith Gammon. "Apart from the practicalities of the vehicle, as with the cycling unit, it provides a visible presence in schools and around the town and is attracting lots of favourable comments."
