Bikeathon
raises profile of cycling and safety
On 4 May the BBCs Blue Peter programme will be holding its
third Bikeathon - an annual cycling event held across the country
to raise money for charity.
This year events will be taking place in over 80 locations across
the UK to raise money for the Leukaemia Research Fund. In 2002,
over 21,000 children took part, raising over £0.5m for the
charity.
As well as a fantastic fund-raising exercise, Bikeathon is a great
opportunity to encourage children to get on their bikes - and to
do so safely. The DfTs THINK! campaign team has been working
closely with Blue Peter to provide information on cycle safety and
maintenance for children, to be included on the Bikeathon website
and programme around the events.
Details of what is happening across the country are available at

or by emailing Holly Wheeler at the Leukaemia Research
fund at hwheeler@lrf.org.uk.
