National
role for Lancashire road safety boss
A Lancashire County Council road safety boss has been elected chairman
of thebody responsible for driver improvement schemes across the
UK.
Neil Cunliffe, group manager (acting) for Lancashire
County Council Road Safety Group, was elected by road safety representatives
from across the UK at the Annual General Meeting of ANDISP (Association
of National Driver Improvement Scheme Providers) early last month.
ANDISP oversees the 40 local authority and private sector organisations
that deliver national driver improvement training. It aims to ensure
that 'best practice' is adopted nationwide.
Neil has been instrumental in the development of driver training
and in particular the Speed Awareness Course project that has been
successfully operating in Lancashire for over 18 months.
"Driving is a big part of our every day life," Neil says.
"We all make mistakes but we can help people to manage their
driving better and reduce the mistakes that lead to road crashes.
So many drivers have told me how positive the driver improvement
courses are and how they have never been offered this kind of training
before. Responses like these make our work so worthwhile.
"It is a great privilege to be chosen to chair ANDISP at such
an important time for the future of driver training schemes. I will
be looking to move the association forward and build on over ten
years of excellent leadership from Colin Pettener
of Shropshire County Council," he concluded.
