Camera partnerships
launch motorcycle campaign
A hard-hitting poster designed to encourage motorcyclists to think
about their riding skills and watch their speed has been produced
by the UKs safety camera partnerships.
The poster, which depicts a motorcycle that has been involved in
a road traffic collision, was launched during April to coincide
with other national bike events and because many motorcyclists take
to the road at this time of year.
The campaign primarily targets super bike riders due
to the fact that inappropriate handling of this type of motorcycle
can lead to lethal consequences. The poster will be displayed in
public areas such as GP surgeries, dental practices, police stations,
Post Offices, libraries, and tourist information centres.
Statistics show that in the UK during 2001 there were 28,768 two-wheeled
motor vehicle casualties - an increase of two per cent on 2000.
"Tragically motorcyclists are over represented in high speed
crashes," said Susan Beck, national communications
manager for the safety camera partnerships. "It is vital that
all bikers think about the last time they attended a riding skills
course, such as BikeSafe. The safety camera partnerships are happy
to advise bikers of their nearest approved training provider as
we want to encourage them to get the right training to handle their
bikes."
