Essex launches 'Share the Road' campaign

Essex County Council’s 'Share the Road' campaign encourages all road users to behave with consideration and to acknowledge that the road must be shared by all. Ultimately it aims to reduce road casualties by making everyone aware of how their actions affect their own safety and the safety of others.

'Share the Road’ was launched in Chelmsford High Street on 4 April 2003, with a generic message intended to engage all road users. Over the next two years the campaign will develop to focus on different interactions between car drivers and more vulnerable user groups and will progress to illustrate how the actions of all road users can impinge upon each other. Posters, leaflets, radio, bus-backs and local displays will be used to target road users and promote the campaign.

This campaign encompasses and complements regional and national initiatives such as Make the Commitment, For my Girlfriend, Responsible Rider and other campaigns intended to inform everyone who uses the road and protect the most vulnerable. It has the flexibility to take on different messages and target groups and welcomes liaison with local user groups to help determine its future direction.
