Youngsters fly the flag for International Walk to School Day

Schoolchildren from a primary school in the Bradford area flew the flag for International Walk to School Day 2002 when they joined children from across the world in walking to school.

The pupils - from Cottingley Village Primary School - carried the flags of the 26 countries participating in the event on their journey to school on 2 October. They formed part of the 32,000 walkers signed up by Bradford district schools to take part during the autumn Walk to School Week.

"This event is a great way for children to have fun and learn important road crossing skills," said councillor Margaret Eaton. "It helps them develop healthy habits for the future and to understand how they can look after the environment. I hope many youngsters will be encouraged to walk to school every day after being involved in Walk to School Week."
