Glasgow introduces
employee driver assessment scheme
Glasgow City Councils Land Services Road Safety Unit is working
in partnership with the departments training section, which
is based at Daldowie, to put approximately 400 employees through
a driving assessment scheme.
The assessment is intended to familiarise staff with the many vehicles
used within the Council - ranging from parking attendant scooters
to cleansing articulated vehicles and to ensure that the
driver is aware of his/her responsibilities while driving.
Employees going through the assessment also receive a road safety
pack containing a freebie and some literature relating
to drink/driving, mobile phone use and speeding. New vocational
student recruits to the department have already been put through
their paces and have received their packs.
"The partnership between the Road Safety Unit and the training
section demonstrates Land Services commitment to ensuring
that all drivers receive assessment," said Jim McLaughlin,
training and development manager at Daldowie. "Where necessary,
corrective tuition is also given to heighten awareness that road
safety and courteous driving is important for staff driving council
vehicles."
