Freshers’ Fair provides timely reminder

A stand manned by Hertfordshire’s Road Safety Team at the University of Hertfordshire Freshers’ Fair on 26 September provided a timely reminder of the perils of drink-driving.

Crowds gathered to watch fellow students take a turn on the 'reaction timer' - and to discover just how much alcohol can affect reactions when driving. "Most were amazed by the results and vowed not to drink and drive," says Stacey Clarke (pictured above), the County’s newly appointed RSO - publicity.

"It was quite strange being on the other side of the display, as I only graduated from the same University in 2002," Stacey adds. "Freshers’ Week is all about firsts - moving out, meeting new people, seeing how much time you can spend in the Uni bar! A student's first road accident is NOT something that Hertfordshire’s Road Safety Team wants to see added to that list."

Ashish Sharda, a first year Ba/Bsc Joint Hons Management Sciences student, won two tickets to see England’s Rugby League team take on Australia later this month. The tickets were provided by the DfT as part of its sponsorship deal with the England Rugby League team.
