New Think!
Slow down radio campaign to break later this month
The DfT is to launch a new burst of Think! Slow down
publicity later this month.
"Over 70 per cent of drivers regularly break the speed limit,"
explains the DfTs Lisa Gossage. "Speed
is by the far the biggest single contributory factor in the majority
of road accidents - yet many drivers do not see going a few miles
over the limit as a problem."
According to the DfT, around two-thirds of all accidents where people
are killed or injured happen on roads where the speed limit is 30mph
or less.
Most drivers will not be aware that the average family car travelling
at
35mph will need an additional 21 feet (six metres) to stop, compared
with one travelling at 30mph.
Exact timings for the new campaign, which will feature radio advertising,
have yet to be made public.
