Preston mosques
educate children about seatbelt wearing
The
award ceremony for a competition linked to a seat belt initiative
that has been running across seven of Prestons mosques took
place on 18 September at Moor Park High School, Preston.
The Lancashire Partnership for Road Safety, together with
Asian community leaders, identified a large number of children travelling
in cars not wearing their seat belts.
In
order to develop networks with Mosque leaders and reinforce the
BeeSafe seat belt message, Partnership staff and police officers
have been visiting Preston's mosques during study periods to give
a short presentation. Children were then invited to enter a competition
for three different age groups.
The BeeSafe seat belt initiative is part of an on-going campaign
by the Lancashire Partnership to promote the message that wearing
a seat belt can save your life.
"We are now witnessing a significant change in attitude and
behaviour among the Asian community," said PC Dave Taylor,
road policing officer, Lancashire Constabulary. "The children
who have been involved in this campaign have really taken the information
and messages on board."
