New primary
school resource launched in Scotland
Streetsense a new road safety resource for primary schools
- was launched last week and made available to all Scottish primary
schools.
Streetsense
is an important part of the national strategy for road safety education
in Scotland. The aim of the strategy is to ensure that all children
and young people in Scotland receive a minimum amount of road safety
education at school covering specific topics at certain times.
Streetsense
aligns with the Health Education 5-14 National Guidelines. All activities
link to road safety attainment targets within these guidelines.
Levels A to E are covered in the pack. Streetsense includes teachers
notes, suggested lesson plans and pupil activities.
"It
is vital that children learn about road safety from an early age
and this valuable teaching resource provides activities such as
role play and discussion on road rules to educate children about
potential dangers on our roads," Nicol Stephen,
Scotlands minister for transport said when launching the resource.
A
leaflet explaining Streetsense has been developed and will be widely
disseminated.
