Walking Bus
takes off in Stoke
Parents of children attending St Teresas Catholic Primary,
Trent Vale, Stoke, have organised a Walking Bus to transport
their children to and from the school.
Volunteers have agreed to meet children at two designated bus stops
and walk with them to the school.
The Walking Bus has been organised with the help of Stoke-on-Trent
City Council and was launched to coincide with the start of national
TravelWise week.
"We are delighted that St Teresas has launched a Walking
Bus and urge as many schools as possible to follow their lead,"
said Heather Moat, the City Councils Walking
Bus co-ordinator. "These initiatives help reduce traffic congestion
near schools and can be tied in with school projects to get children
thinking about issues such as pollution and the environment.
"It will also help alleviate congestion at the school entrance,
help the children develop road safety skills and will have health
benefits.
"Parents at St Teresas have been very keen to help and
we have a list of volunteers who have agreed to walk with the children,"
Heather adds.
Each child joining the walking bus is provided with a high visibility
jacket courtesy of Kia Motors.
