Road safety game goes global

A board game developed by South Lanarkshire's road safety team for a one off training event is set to go global after an unexpected surge of interest in it.

Based on a traditional Snakes and Ladders format, but with a road safety theme and the addition of question cards, the game was created with a giant six foot by six foot playing board to be used at an annual event for South Lanarkshire pupils.

It was a huge hit at the event and was subsequently highlighted on the LARSOA website, which led to emails asking for more information and copies of the game.

With requests coming from across the UK and further afield - including Ireland and even Africa - a redesign of the board was ordered to ensure no complications existed over copyright.

With the redesigned game ready to be launched, South Lanarkshire's Eleanor Gibson says demand is still growing: "We were stunned with how this idea took off and even now, several months after the original article on the LARSOA website, we are continuing to receive enquiries. In addition, we have now been approached by a national organisation with a view to making the game available throughout the country."
