Free activity books for Milton Keynes kids
Road safety officers at Milton Keynes Council have launched a campaign to help keep children safe during the remainder of the school summer holiday period.
The campaign involves the distribution of free activity books that are designed to keep young people entertained in a fun way, while at the same time teaching important road safety messages.
There are two books to choose from, dependant on a child's learning ability and age, and both contain a wide range information for child road users. Topics include cycling, safety as a pedestrian, and information about being a passenger in a vehicle. There are also a number of fun activities that teach children essential road safety life skills.
The activity book scheme has been devised in a bid to reduce the number of children hurt on Milton Keynes' roads. During 2003, 10 children were hurt every week, and tragically 14 suffered serious injuries - one of which was fatal.
