Hampshire launches county-wide 'Don't drive tired' campaign

Hampshire's Road Safety Team launched a countywide Don't Drive Tired campaign - utilising large format poster sites at motorway service stations across Hampshire - to coincide with the August Bank Holiday weekend. In support of the ongoing DfT campaign, Hampshire used a THINK! poster to remind people of the risks of driving for too long or when tired.

Statistics show that one in five road accidents on monotonous roads are caused by someone falling asleep at the wheel, and most of these incidents involve a driver running off the road or into the back of another vehicle. Sleep-related crashes are particularly dangerous and often result in serious injury because the driver does not brake to lessen the impact.

"It's vital that people on long trips plan their journey carefully, with enough breaks so they don't reach the stage of being too tired to drive," says Ernie Sage Hampshire's road safety services manager.
