Millionaire game could help save lives

The Lancashire Partnership for Road Safety hopes its new Who Wants to be a Millionaire interactive drink-drive game will help save lives.

Young people across the county will have the opportunity to play for prizes including hip dance CDs, fashion T-shirts and trendy wristbands when the Partnership takes the game to city and town centre pubs over the coming weeks.

Statistics for the period April 2004 - March 2005 show that 2,788 people were charged with drink driving offences on Lancashire's roads - and of these 891 (31.95 per cent) were aged 24 or under. Further analysis shows that more than one in five of those caught drink driving were 21 or under, making young people the biggest drink-drive offenders.

"The new game is a fun challenge, but its aim is to educate young people on the dangers of drink driving while they are actually out having a good time with their mates," says the Partnership's Linda Sanderson . "We are confident it will make them stop and think."
