Please close this window to return to the LARSOA news pages 'Safe Drive, Stay Alive' takes to the road again To educate Surrey's young drivers about their actions and possible consequences while driving, Surrey Fire & Rescue Service and partners are to present another round of the Safe Drive, Stay Alive show. Former Formula One champion Damon Hill (pictured), who launched the first round of shows, fully supports the scheme. "We can never totally escape risk. We are at risk from the moment we are born. But we can at least dispel the myth of our own invincibility," he said. Surrey Fire & Rescue Service, Surrey County Council, Surrey Police, Surrey Ambulance, The Royal Surrey Hospital and RoadPeace joined forces to produce Safe Drive, Stay Alive following its success in Fife, Scotland. Nearly 4,000 young people aged 16 to 18 years from across Surrey attended the previous shows. Each show is based around a video reconstruction of a road traffic collision. The video is interspersed with real life testimonies by members of the emergency services. The parent of a young person who lost their life in a road traffic collision, and a person disabled by the actions of a young driver, also relay their experiences. "Safe Drive, Stay Alive is a groundbreaking partnership project - a first for England and only the third UK-wide," said Steve Myers , Surrey's chief fire officer. "This powerful and emotional initiative brings home the very real consequences of poor driving behaviour to the young people of Surrey, and also to us all."
