Emergency advice for motorists
South Lanarkshire Council's road safety team has joined forces with the emergency services to advise drivers on how best to assist emergency vehicles when they are out on the roads.
The road safety and emergency vehicles campaign aims to inform drivers that when an emergency vehicle is approaching, they should be vigilant, leave enough room, and keep driving until a suitable and safe place has been found to stop.
Hundreds of vehicle air fresheners bearing the key messages have been produced to mark the launch of the campaign.
Chair of the council's road safety forum, councillor Billy McCaig, said: "This is an important campaign that will hopefully give drivers the confidence to act appropriately when an emergency vehicle is approaching. The fire, police and ambulance services are all glad to be involved and hopefully this may help make their job slightly easier."
