Partnerships launch rural roads campaign
Safety camera partnerships in the South West of England are running a joint campaign to highlight the dangers associated with speeding on rural roads.
The South West is one of Britain's favourite holiday destinations and the bus back and radio campaign coincides with the school holidays when the region's roads are at their busiest.
Commonly used phrases including 'Are we nearly there yet?' and 'Countryside to die for' connect the holiday theme with the need for responsible motoring.
A spokesperson for the camera partnerships said: "Because rural roads are generally freer of traffic there is a tendency for motorists to assume that it is safe to break the speed limit.
"However, country lanes and highways are often far less forgiving than urban roads and should be treated with caution. Just because a road is national speed limit does not mean that it is safe to drive at 60mph."
