Police put wrecked drink-drive car on show

Police in Wiltshire have put on display a wrecked car that was involved in a fatal crash - to warn of the dangers of drink-driving.

The 55-year-old owner of the Vauxhall died after being hit by a drink driver. The offender was given a three-year prison sentence and banned from driving for five years.

The wrecked car has gone on display with the permission of the victim's widow. Maggie Matcham said the family was still coming to terms with her husband's death. "I don't think anyone should drink and drive," she said. "Drink yes, but you do not get in that car. Look what's happened to me - I've had the shock of losing my husband because of drinking and driving."

The dramatic display was in Chippenham last week, is in Salisbury this Monday, and will be in Swindon on 29 August. It is part of Wiltshire Police's ongoing OP XS campaign against the problems of excess alcohol.
