Strategy targets 'avoidable injuries'

Falls, road accidents, fires and poisoning are being targeted in a new regional campaign to reduce the number of accidents - the East Midlands Avoidable Injury Strategy.

The strategy sets out actions that can be taken by organisations across the region, including free home safety checks, visibility aids for road users, child cycle training and advice on storage of poisonous substances.

The campaign is being backed by local councils, the fire service, NHS, public health officials and voluntary organisations, and is seeking 'champions' for accident reduction. "We hope that as this strategy is made known there will be individuals that want to know more, promote this cause and help to bring organisations together to talk about joint work that could be undertaken," said Andy Chick, Nottinghamshire Fire & Rescue Service.
