Devon launches
newsletter to back biker campaign
The launch issue of a newsletter to promote the work that is being
undertaken in Devon County Council's motorcycle safety campaign
has recently been published.
The campaign, Bringing Bikers Out Of The Blindspot,
will run for three years in a bid to reduce motorcycle casualties
in the county. In 2002 a quarter of fatal collisions in Devon were
motorcyclists - yet they only comprise two per cent of all traffic.
The newsletter, Blindspot will be produced and circulated
on a quarterly basis and sent to campaign partners, stakeholders
and other interested parties including the police, local motor cycle
dealers, biker clubs and advanced riding groups.
The newsletter also aims to keep bikers informed about issues that
affect them and outlines what Devon County Council's Road Safety
Team is doing to try to reduce casualty figures. Content in issue
one includes coverage of the launch of the Blindspot campaign, information
about the Council's new driver awareness campaign, details of new
motorcycle training courses now available and an in depth report
into motorcycle collisions in the county.
"The first part of the Blindspot campaign was to consult with
bikers and gauge their opinions on issues that affect them,"
said Devon County Council RSO Michael Newcombe. "The
response has been excellent. We now aim to keep motorcyclists informed
about various projects being introduced to try to improve their
safety on our roads."
