Message in
a Bottle
Over 1000 school pupils entered a poster competition to support
the Christmas anti drink drive campaign in Gwent.
The competition, which has been an annual event for over 20 years,
was organised jointly by Heddlu Gwent Police and the Road Safety
Section of Capita Gwent Consultancy.
Lewis Barber, age 11 of Ysgol Bryn Onnen, Pontypool,
designed the best poster in the junior category, it carries the
statement, If you want some Christmas cheer, DON'T DRIVE,
Go home to drink your beer (see pic above).
Jack
Samuels, age 12, of Monmouth Comprehensive School, designed
the winning senior poster. Jack's poster depicts an upturned car
in a snowdrift - inside a corked bottle. The strap line reads Message
in a bottle - don't drink and drive (see pic below).
Penny
Thorpe, principal RSO with Capita Gwent Consultancy was
one of the judges of the competition. "The standard was higher
than ever and it was very difficult to choose the best posters,"
she said. "Lewis and Jack had obviously put a lot of thought
into their designs which are very eye catching."
The winners were awarded cheques and certificates at a special ceremony
at County Hall Cwmbran on 2 December.
