Entering
into the Christmas spirit
Hertfordshires Road Safety Unit joined in the festivities
at Harpendens 'Big Night Out' recently to promote safe driving
this Christmas. The event, which was attended by over 5000 visitors,
gave members of the road safety team the opportunity to raise the
profile of safe and responsible driving.
Over 1500 people visited the road safety stall during the course
of the evening and adults were offered a warming non-alcoholic 'mocktail'.
Officers also handed out information on a number of important messages
including drink driving, winter driving and the new mobile phone
legislation, and gave suggestions for other Christmas mocktails.
Children were given colouring books and lollipop bookmarks.
The need to recruit School Crossing Patrol officers in the area
was also high on the agenda and visitors were invited to apply for
a position.
Doctor Truman from Eastenders (actor Nicholas
Bailey) briefly joined the RSOs for a taste of the winter
warmer drink before going on to switch on the towns
Christmas lights.
The Road Safety Unit will be attending Berkhamsted, Hatfield and
Royston Christmas carnivals, as well as a number of Christmas fairs,
over the coming month.
