Councillor joins speed course

Councillor Tim Ormrod took part in Lancashire County Council's Speed Awareness Course to discover what makes drivers break the rules.

The council's road safety group, which runs the course based on referrals from Lancashire Constabulary, invited him to take part as he was heavily involved in its establishment.

"I wanted to experience the course for myself and find out how it has helped nearly 35,000 drivers improve their driving skills and habits," Tim Ormrod says. "It was interesting to hear other people's views about speeding and the benefits of safety cameras.

"As the day progressed, the message about speeding started to sink in. Most people were quick to admit that they hadn't realised the risks involved just by driving a few miles over the speed limit.

"The course certainly taught me a few lessons. Having driven for a number of years, it is easy to get complacent and develop bad habits that you don't even realise you have," he concluded.
