Hartlepool launches 'Responsible Driver' campaign

Hartlepool's mayor has backed the council's road safety team by urging residents to sign up to a voluntary scheme that involves motorists setting a good example to others by displaying a yellow sticker on their vehicles.

The Responsible Driver campaign sticker bears the slogan 'I'm Sticking to the Limit. Are You Behind Me?'

As well as watching their speed, drivers are being asked to stay within drink/drive limit, give way to pedestrians at or near recognised crossings, take extra care near schools, abide by local parking restrictions and use car parks wherever possible, be courteous and show patience to all other road users.

"We have a number of tried and tested schemes that we use to try to reduce casualties on our roads but we are always looking for something new and innovative. This campaign enables drivers to do their bit, and I hope they support it," said road safety officer Paul Watson.
