ROSPA'S unveils CD-ROM resource

RoSPA has launched a new road safety education CD ROM resource to help teachers of 14-16 year-old pupils. The CD tackles issues surrounding driving and helps students understand how to assess risk and consider the consequences of their actions.

Topics include passenger safety, drink, drugs and driving, learning to drive or ride, and how the media is used to portray road safety messages in both good and bad ways.

It also includes discussion points and guidance for formal debates as well as useful websites, suggested activities and information about the law for students.

"Research shows that over 50 per cent of 15-year-olds killed or seriously injured in cars are being driven by drivers under the age of 21," says Kevin Clinton, RoSPA head of road safety. "We know that 14-16 year-olds are beginning to think about driving and may already have friends who are able to drive, which is why this teaching resource is essential."

The CD, Road Safety in Citizenship, is accompanied by teachers' notes and four student sheets. Teachers will be able to obtain a copy of the resource through their local education authority's road safety department or from www.rospa.com/roadsafety/citizenship/index.htm.
