TfL receives award for reducing motorcycle casualties

Transport for London (TfL) has been presented with a Prince Michael Road Safety Award for its work to reduce motorcycle and scooter casualties in London.

Over the last few years, TfL has produced a package of initiatives aimed at reducing the high proportion of motorcycle collisions in London. These include BikeSafe London, a series of motorcycle safety publicity campaigns, including television and cinema advertisements, a bus lane access trial and powered two-wheeler exemption from the congestion charge. TfL has also set up a working group, with representatives from the Metropolitan Police Service, motorcycling organisations and the London Boroughs, which has been key to the success.

"The safety of road users and passengers on our services is of paramount importance to TfL," said Peter Brown, chief operating officer of Street Management.

"I am honoured to receive this award on behalf of all those who have worked hard to make motorcycling safer in London."
