Death driver image wins competition

Will Death Be Your Ride Home is the message on one of the winning entries in a Christmas drink drive poster competition.

The competition, which has been an annual event in Wales for 21 years, was organised by Capita Symonds (Gwent Consultancy) and Heddlu Gwent Police.

The 'death' poster won the senior category and has been chosen to feature in the All Wales Christmas drink drive campaign. The 18-year-old artist, John Johnston, plans to make a career in illustration. "The caption came first, then I elaborated on the idea of death driving a drinker home," he said.

The winners were presented with cheques and certificates by Chief Constable, Mr Mike Tonge, at a ceremony at County Hall, Cwmbran.

Mr Tonge said: "I am very pleased to see children looking at ways to get this important message home to people over the festive season. The children who took part clearly support our message."
