Drink drive campaign in full swing

Road safety teams across the UK have launched their own local campaigns to support the DfT's drink-drive campaign.

In Hampshire, RSOs have joined forces with local licensees to encourage people who are going to drink alcohol to order a taxi. Posters with local taxi numbers have been distributed to pubs, clubs and restaurants that signed up to the Pubwatch scheme.

Ernie Sage road safety services manager said: "We need to make people think before they go out and plan their journeys home in advance by either booking a taxi, using public transport, or nominating someone to be the designated driver."

In the north west, Stockport Council has partnered with bus company Stagecoach and Greater Manchester Police in a radio campaign being broadcast on Imagine FM.

The council's road safety team and staff from Imagine FM also recently distributed information about the campaign at a local shopping centre. Greater Manchester Police provided a crashed car to add visual impact to the promotion.
